47-Hour Firearms Training Course

Location: Nassau County Rifle & Pistol Range

Mandatory New York State Certified Firearms Course to become a DCJS-approved ARMED Security Guard.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This comprehensive 47-hour program covers:

• Firearms safety rules
• Fundamentals of shooting
• Tactical shooting
• Firearm care and cleaning
• Proper use of force, including deadly physical force
• Handgun, shotgun, and rifle handling

This course is suitable for both novice and experienced shooters. A minimum score of 70% is required on all written and shooting qualifications.

Monday, March 23, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

COST

$725.00 plus approximately 700 rounds of ammunition.

All course materials, range time, targets, and safety equipment are included.

Firearm and holster available at no charge if needed.

ELIGIBILITY

• Must have a New York State pistol permit
• Must have or be applying for a NYS Security Guard License
• Unarmed guards may take this course to upgrade to armed status
• Individuals without a security guard license may apply directly for armed status by completing Pre-Assignment Training and the 47-Hour Firearms Course

Pistol permit applicants may request special permission from their local pistol licensing agency to attend and use an instructor-provided firearm.

CERTIFICATION                                                                                                                Students who successfully complete all required shooting qualifications and written testing will receive a completion certificate at the end of the course.

Payment must be received before the start date of the class. You can pay by credit card upon registration or over the phone.

 All participants are REQUIRED to bring their Driver’s license, Pistol License, Weapon, Magazines, Holster and  at least 700 rounds of Ammunition.
