Safety Quest Ltd. offers HR-218 / LEOSA firearms qualification for active & retired law enforcement officers in Long Island, New York. This course allows eligible retired officers to maintain their ability to carry a concealed firearm nationwide under federal law.

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), also known as H.R. 218, is a federal law (18 U.S.C. §§ 926B & 926C) enacted in 2004. The law allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms across state lines, overriding most state and local firearm restrictions.

To carry under LEOSA, individuals must possess valid law enforcement identification, and retired officers must complete an annual firearms qualification.

This qualification course meets the requirements of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), HR-218. Upon successful completion, participants receive a qualification card verifying they have met the federal firearms qualification standard required to carry under HR-218.

When carried together with a valid Retired Law Enforcement Identification Card, this qualification satisfies the federal requirement for eligible retired officers to carry a concealed firearm throughout all 50 states, U.S. territories, and commonwealths, subject to applicable federal restrictions.

Course Overview

The course takes approximately 2½ hours to complete and includes:

• Firearm safety review

• Explanation of the 50-round DCJS-approved course of fire

• Overview of HR-218 / LEOSA federal requirements and responsibilities when carrying outside your home state

• Live-fire qualification (minimum passing score: 70%)

After successfully qualifying, participants will be issued a photo identification qualification card. When carrying under HR-218, retired officers must have both:

• Their Retired Law Enforcement Identification Card, and

• Their HR-218 Qualification Card

All participants must bring:

• Retired Police Identification Card

• Valid Pistol License (if applicable)

• Firearm (revolver or semi-automatic)

• Magazines or speed loaders

• Holster

• 50 rounds of ammunition
