Safety Quest Ltd. offers HR-218 / LEOSA firearms qualification for active & retired law enforcement officers in Long Island, New York. This course allows eligible retired officers to maintain their ability to carry a concealed firearm nationwide under federal law.

The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), also known as H.R. 218, is a federal law (18 U.S.C. §§ 926B & 926C) enacted in 2004. The law allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms across state lines, overriding most state and local firearm restrictions.

To carry under LEOSA, individuals must possess valid law enforcement identification, and retired officers must complete an annual firearms qualification.

This qualification course meets the requirements of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), HR-218. Upon successful completion, participants receive a qualification card verifying they have met the federal firearms qualification standard required to carry under HR-218.

When carried together with a valid Retired Law Enforcement Identification Card, this qualification satisfies the federal requirement for eligible retired officers to carry a concealed firearm throughout all 50 states, U.S. territories, and commonwealths, subject to applicable federal restrictions.

Course Overview

Approximately 2½ hours, including:

• Firearm safety review
• Review of HR-218 / LEOSA requirements
• 50-round DCJS-approved course of fire
• Live-fire qualification — 70% minimum passing score

Upon successful qualification, participants receive a photo HR-218 Qualification Card.

When carrying under HR-218, retired officers must carry both their Retired Law Enforcement ID and HR-218 Qualification Card.
